The No. 13 UCLA men's tennis team (11-3) opens up Pac-10 play in the Bay Area this week, taking on No. 12 Cal (8-4) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 8 Stanford (8-4) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Friday marks the second meeting between UCLA and Cal this season, as the Golden Bears notched a 5-2 upset over the then-No. 5 Bruins on Feb. 26 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA was supposed to face Stanford that weekend as well, however that match was canceled due to rain, making this weekend's encounter the first meeting between the two teams this year. The Cardinal are coming off a 5-2 upset loss to No. 16 Baylor on Tuesday in Waco, Texas.
UCLA moved up two spots from No. 15 to No. 13 in the latest ITA Team Rankings released on Tuesday. UCLA currently has three players ranked in singles led by freshman Daniel Kosakowski at No. 42. He is followed by No. 61 Amit Inbar and No. 118 Maxime Tabatruong. Inbar and teammate Alex Brigham are the Bruins' lone ranked doubles team, checking in at No. 61. Complete ITA Rankings can be found HERE.
Due to the fact that its home match against Stanford on Feb. 25 was canceled and will not be made up, UCLA decided to add another match to its 2011 schedule. The Bruins will now host Cal Poly on April 20 at 2:30 p.m., just two days before taking on rival USC. Both matches will take place at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Unlike the UCLA women's team, which plays six-straight road matches to round out the regular season, the Bruin men will play five of their final six matches at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. In fact, all six matches will be in Southern California, as the lone road match takes place at Pepperdine on April 11. The Bruins' five other home matches are: Washington (April 1), Oregon (April 2), Arizona (April 8), Cal Poly (April 20) and USC (April 22).
