The fourth-ranked UCLA men's golf team travels to Fort Worth, Tex. to compete in the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship, Oct. 29-31 at historic Colonial Country Club.
"This is a fun tournament and we're proud to be invited," said Head Coach O.D. Vincent. "It will give some of our younger players the opportunity to gain match play experience."
Six players will travel to the event for UCLA, which boasts two victories and a pair of second place finishes in its first four events.
Highlighting the list is senior Peter Campbell, a two-time winner in his UCLA career. In six rounds this season, he is averaging 72.6 with one Top 5 finish at the season-opening Husky Invitational.
Junior Craig Leslie, who tied for fifth at the Husky Invitational, will also play in the Callaway event. He is averaging 73.8 with two rounds under par after six rounds.
Sophomore Lucas Lee won twice last season as a freshman and earned All-Pac-10 honors. This season he has started hot, recording three Top 20 finishes, including a pair of runner-up finishes. He leads the team with a 71.7 scoring average, four rounds under par and three rounds below 70.
Sophomore James Lee (no relation) has recorded a pair of Top 25 finishes in his first two starts of the season. He is averaging 72.6 with a six-under 66 to his credit in the opening round of the Husky Invitational.
Both of UCLA's freshmen will be competing in Texas this week. Jason Kang boasts a sparkling 71.8 scoring average with a runner-up finish at the SCU Invitational last week. The Bruins' other freshman, Charlie Harris, recorded his first career Top 20 finish, tying for 20th at the SCU Invitational.
Other Bruin news ... For the second consecutive year, UCLA's Erik Flores has been named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List. The Hogan Award honors the top collegiate player in all intercollegiate divisions. Flores this season boasts two Top 10 finishes in three starts. ... In the latest GolfWorld Coaches poll (Oct. 25) the Bruins were ranked fourth. In the latest Golf Coaches Assn. of America poll (Oct. 26), the Bruins were ranked fifth. ... A scheduled appearance for the Blue Team at Wood Ranch in the Bill Cullum Invitational, Oct. 30-31 was cancelled last week.
