Sophomore opposite Rachael Kidder (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 25-31.
Kidder led the Bruins in kills in both matches last weekend, including 24 in #11 UCLA's upset victory of #7 Washington on Friday. She added 14 kills and a .370 hitting percentage on Sunday against Washington State to give her eight consecutive matches with double figures in kills.
Kidder opened the weekend with her third career match with over 20 kills to help the Bruins snap an eight-match losing streak to the Huskies. She added six digs, three blocks and 25.5 points, hitting 80 points above her season percentage. After recording four kills in the initial set, Kidder had a team-best eight in the Bruins' second-set win. She added a team-high four in the fourth before producing six of UCLA's 11 kills in the deciding fifth set.
On Sunday versus Washington State, Kidder hit .370, which was 172 points higher than her season hitting percentage, adding four digs and a block. She led the Bruins in kills in the first set with five and the second with six, posting no errors in 10 swings in the second stanza. Kidder added three more kills in the third set and was taken out midway through with the match in hand.
Kidder is averaging 3.52 kills per set, which is second on the team. During Pac-10 play, she has raised her average to 4.05 kps, which ranks in the Top 10 among league players.
This is Kidder's third UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
