LOS ANGELES - After posting a pair of shutouts to start the year, the No. 4-ranked UCLA men's tennis team continued its dominance on Friday, as the Bruins blanked BYU, 7-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win UCLA, which began the season with a pair of 7-0 wins over UC Irvine and San Diego, improves to 3-0. The Cougars fall to 1-3 overall with the loss.
Friday marked the first singles action of the dual-match season for senior captain Chris Surapol, who, due to injury, had been limited to doubles play in the Bruins' first two matches of the year. Surapol looked solid in his return to the singles lineup, as he dropped just three games en route to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Christian Hand at court No. 3.
With the Bruins leading 3-0, sophomore Michael Look clinched the match for UCLA at court No. 6, as he downed Michael Eraso, 6-1, 6-3.
Despite a strong showing from the Cougars in doubles play, the Bruins took wins on all three courts to clinch the point for the third time this season. UCLA is now 14-0 in all-time matches against BYU.
UCLA returns to action next Tuesday, hosting SDSU at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
