Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - Megan Langenfeld had two RBIs and Anjelica Selden fanned 11 batters in a complete-game effort as 12th-ranked UCLA defeated Loyola Marymount on Tuesday afternoon at Easton Stadium, 5-2. UCLA improves to 11-5 on the season while LMU falls to 12-8.

The visiting Lions jumped on the board first with lone runs in the top of the first and second inning. In the opening frame, LMU used three hits in its first four at bats before a bases loaded walk to Christine Foley brought home Kirsten Slouber to give the Lions a 1-0 edge. LMU scored again in the second inning as Tiffany Gonzales' single to left also brought home Slouber for a 2-0 score.

UCLA answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, walks to Kaila Shull and Jodie Legaspi, sandwiched around a single by Lisa Dodd, loaded the bases for Langenfeld, who came through with a two-RBI single to left. Fellow freshman Julie Burney gave UCLA the lead two batters later as her RBI infield single scored Legaspi for a 3-2 UCLA lead.

The Bruins added two more runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a one-out throwing error and a two-out fielding error to load the bases. Jaisa Creps' infield single brought home Legaspi, who had walked with one out, while pinch hitter Danielle Peterson drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Langenfeld with the game's final tally.

The Bruins notched just five hits offensively, but were the recipients of seven walks by LMU starting pitcher Tiffany Pagano. Selden (6-3) picked up the win in the circle, scattering eight hits and allowing two runs with one walk and 11 strikeouts in seven innings. Pagano (4-5) took the loss for LMU, giving up four hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings.

UCLA is back home this weekend to host its annual Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, with Florida, Long Beach State, Illinois State and Loyola-Chicago coming to Westwood. On Friday, the Bruins will face Long Beach State (3 p.m.) and Loyola-Chicago (5:30 p.m.). Saturday's schedule includes UCLA battling Florida at 12:30 p.m. The Bruins wrap up weekend play on Sunday against Loyola-Chicago at 2 p.m.
