BRUIN INJURY UPDATE
The Bruins have three players that have been sideline this season due to injury and all three will not play in Monday (Nov. 19) night's contest against Maryland. All-American point guard Darren Collison has a sprained left knee (MCL); junior guard Michael Roll has a ruptured plantar fascia in his left foot while sophomore forward James Keefe is rehabilitating from surgery on Aug. 10 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The Bruins will only dress eight scholarship players for the Maryland game.
UCLA is currently ranked No. 2 in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll. The Bruins also sported a preseason ranking of No. 2 in both polls, marking the third straight season that the Bruins were ranked in the preseason polls. It also marked the highest preseason ranking for the Bruins in 27 years. The 1981-82 squad opened its season with a No. 2 ranking and a home loss to unranked BYU 75-79 on Nov. 27, 1981.
SERIES VS. MARYLAND
This is the eighth meeting between UCLA and Maryland with the Bruins leading the series 5-2. Led by Earl Watson's 17 points and school-record 16 assists, UCLA dominated the last meeting 105-70 in the second round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament in Minneapolis. UCLA drained a then-school-record 14 three-pointers against the third-seeded Terrapins, who were led by Lonny Baxter's double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
