LOS ANGELES - Playing its final non-conference match before Pac-10 play begins this weekend, the No. 13 UCLA men's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over visiting Loyola Marymount on Tuesday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
UCLA (11-3) was paced in singles by sophomore Maxime Tabatruong, who didn't drop a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Daniel Simko at court No. 5. Four other Bruin players also notched straight-set singles victories on the day.
The Bruins also enjoyed an excellent performance in doubles, sweeping all three matches for just the fourth time this season. Warren Hardie and Daniel Kosakowski clinched the point for UCLA at court No. 2, notching an 8-6 victory over Aris Andreasian and Tyler Gottshall.
UCLA has two of its most important matches of the season this weekend, as the Bruins head to the Bay Area to take on No. 12 Cal (Friday at 1:30 p.m.) and No. 8 Stanford (Saturday at 1:00 p.m.). Cal defeated UCLA, 5-2 on Feb. 26 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, although that match did not count in the Pac-10 standings. The Bruins' match with Stanford in late February was canceled due to rain. Both of this weekend's matches will count in the Pac-10 standings.
