Eugene, Ore. - The third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team suffered just its third loss of the season Friday evening, as the Bruins were upset by Oregon, 2-1 in double-overtime at Pape Field in Eugene. With the loss, UCLA moves to 16-3 overall and 7-1 in the Pac-10. The Bruins can still win the Pac-10 title outright with a victory over Oregon State on Sunday. With the win, Oregon improves to 11-6-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the conference.

Following a scoreless first half, the Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute, as Allison Newton sent in a sharp-angled shot from the left corner. The Bruins, however, struck back in the 78th minute on an own goal. Sophomore Christina DiMartino sent a ball into the box, and a failed clearance by an Oregon defender resulted in a deflection into the net.

Prior to the own goal, the Bruins twice came within inches of scoring, as Danesha Adams knocked one off the post, and Lauren Cheney bounced one off the crossbar.

However, with less than three minutes remaining in the second overtime period, Oregon senior Nicole Garbin ended the match with a seven-yard shot into the left corner at the 107:16 mark. Newton was credited with the assist.

UCLA outshot Oregon 24-19 on the night. Cheney led all players with a match-high 10 shots. Goalkeeper Valerie Henderson finished with six saves.

The Bruins play their final match of the regular season on Sunday, facing Oregon State at 11:00 a.m. in Corvallis. Even a tie against the Beavers guarantees UCLA at least a share of the Pac-10 title. NCAA selections will be announced on Monday.
