LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's water polo program has signed seven talented high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Adam Krikorian has announced. The seven high school standouts committed to UCLA during the early signing period and will report to campus in the fall of 2009.
"We are very excited about this recruiting class," Krikorian said. "These seven young women have led their high school and junior national teams to great success, and we're confident that they will help add to the winning tradition we have established at UCLA."
The group of seven high school seniors includes two defenders, one utility player and four attackers - two right-handed, two left-handed. The Bruins' recruiting class features three players who have played or are currently playing for the U.S. Junior National Team.
Sanger, Calif. (Buchanan HS)
Earned first-team Fresno Bee All-Valley accolades as a senior (2008)...helped lead Buchanan High School to the 2008 CIF Central Section Division I final; led Buchanan with two goals in the title match, a 9-5 loss to Clovis West...earned first-team California-Hawaii All-America honors as a junior...guided Buchanan to the 2007 CIF Central Section Division I Championship with a victory in the title match against Clovis West...named an honorable mention California-Hawaii All-America selection as a sophomore...also has competed for the Clovis Water Polo Club...has played on the Cadet National Team for two seasons and spent the summer of 2008 competing for the U.S. Water Polo Junior National Team in Australia.
Temecula, Calif. (Chaparral HS)
Earned first-team All-Southwestern League honors as a junior (2008)...was named a second-team selection by the Riverside Press-Enterprise...totaled 90 goals, second-most in the Southwestern League, and 19 assists as a junior...earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division V honors as a sophomore (2007)...totaled 36 goals and 45 assists as a sophomore...helped lead Chaparral to the CIF-SS Division V semifinals in 2007...also a varsity swimming letterwinner, finished 12th in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2008 CIF-SS Division II Championships...helped lead Chaparral to a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and to a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay at the CIF Division II Championships...spent the summer of 2008 competing for the U.S. Water Polo Junior National Water Polo Team in Australia.

Captured first-team All-CIF Central Coast Section Division II honors as a junior (2007) and senior (2008)...also named a first-team All-WCAL selection as a senior...helped lead Sacred Heart Prep to back-to-back CIF Central Coast Section Division II Titles (2007, 2008); prior to 2007, Sacred Heart Prep had never advanced to the CIF Championship contest...in 2008, Sacred Heart Prep finished with a 23-6 overall record...also guided Sacred Heart Prep to the 2008 WCAL Championship with a 9-4 win over St. Francis...earned honorable mention California-Hawaii All-America distinction as a junior (2007)...helped lead Sacred Heart Prep to the 2007 Menlo School MacDonald Invitational with a four-goal effort in an 11-2 victory over Menlo...Mary Jayne's sister, Melissa, is a junior on the UCLA women's water polo team.
