Charlottesville, Va. - Despite playing only two matches prior to one of the most important events of the year, the fourth-seeded UCLA men's tennis team looked strong in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoors on Friday, downing No. 13 Kentucky, 4-1 at the Boars Head Sports Club. With the win, UCLA (3-0) earns a quarterfinal showdown with fifth-seeded Tennessee on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
Playing in his first dual match at UCLA, senior transfer Kallim Stewart notched the match-clinching win for the Bruins on Friday, rallying from a set down to eventually defeat Graeme Dyce, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at court No. 6. Other singles winners for UCLA were Nick Meister (court No. 3) and Matt Brooklyn (court No. 4).
The Bruins clinched the doubles point when Stewart and Brooklyn sneaked out a 9-8 victory over Alex Musialek and Anthony Rossi at court No. 3.
