Freshman Ida Storm easily captured her first indoor conference crown in the 20-lb weight throw on day one of the MPSF Championships in Seattle, WA. Storm, a Swedish national, won the event by nearly nine feet with a toss of 67-11. That mark moves her to No. 7 in the NCAA this season and is the top throw by a Swedish woman in the event.
Senior Shannon Murakami, who was competing in her first indoor meet this season, finished seventh in the 5000m with a time of 16:38.13.
Senior Lindsay Rowe posted the No. 2 time in the 60m hurdles (8.25) to advance to Saturday's final.
In the pentathlon, freshman Tatum Souza placed fifth overall with a total score of 3719 points, while teammate Kimmie Conner was eighth with a total of 3396 points. Souza was sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.90), tied for eighth in the high jump (5-1), was third in the shot put (38-7), placed fifth in the long jump (18-1.50) and was fourth in the 800m (2:25.24). Conner was eighth in the 60m hurdles (9.02), tied for sixth in the high jump (5-2.25), 12th in the shot put (31-1), 11th in the long jump (16-1.75) and sixth in the 800m (2:25.88).
Competition concludes on Saturday at the MPSF Indoor Championships.
