UCLA's Shabazz Muhammad Named USBWA Freshman All-American

ST. LOUIS - UCLA's Shabazz Muhammad has secured USBWA Freshman All-America Team honors, as announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association (USBWA) on Wednesday.

Muhammad joins Anthony Bennett (UNLV), Ben McLemore (Kansas), Nerlens Noel (Kentucky) and Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) on the five-man Freshman All-America Team.

Smart was honored as the 2013 Wayman Tisdale Award selection (USBWA Freshman of the Year).

Muhammad, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward from Las Vegas, ranked third among Pac-12 players in scoring with 18.3 ppg. He earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors and Pac-12 Co-Freshman of the Year acclaim on Monday and was named a USBWA All-District IX honoree on Tuesday.

Muhammad has scored in double figures in 27 of 28 games played. He ranks third in the Pac-12 in three-point field goal percentage (41.7 pct, 40-96) and has averaged 5.1 rpg this season.

UCLA will face either Arizona State or Stanford in a quarterfinal game at the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday afternoon. Game time is 12 p.m. (PT) at MGM Grand Garden Arena is Las Vegas.
