LOS ANGELES - The 19th-ranked UCLA women's basketball team returns to Pauley Pavilion this Sunday (Dec. 2) to host Loyola Marymount at 2:00 p.m. The Bruins have partnered with Samaritan's Feet to deliver new athletic shoes and socks to children in need. The Bruins have a goal of 200 new and unused shoes to be donated to be delivered on Dec. 10 to the Lifeline Charter School in Compton, Calif.
On Sunday, the UCLA women's basketball team will be capturing the spirit of giving by hosting a shoe drive before the LMU game with Samaritan's Feet. This is the second year the Bruins have supported this great cause. Last year, the team personally distributed shoes to children in Philadelphia at the recreation center that senior guard/forward Markel Walker learned to play basketball.
This year, the Bruins are shifting their focus locally to the charter school (grades 6-8) in Compton, Calif. All shoes and donations that are collected on Sunday will go towards their shoe distribution next week on Dec. 10.
Additionally, both Loyola Marymount and UCLA coaching staffs will coach in bare feet to raise awareness for the cause.
Fans can bring a pair of unused shoes to the game to receive two free tickets to the LMU game, or they can donate $10 to the cause and receive two free tickets to the game. There will be a tent outside of Pauley Pavilion's North Entrance where you can donate your items and collect your tickets.
We need shoes for both girls and boys. On the girl's side, we are looking for the following sizes (2, 3, 3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2, 7, 7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2 and 10). The list of boy's preferred sizes includes (3, 3 1/2, 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2, 7, 7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2, 10, 11, 11 1/2, 12, 13 and 14).
For fans who can't attend the game on Sunday but wish to support Samaritan's Feet and contribute to UCLA's goal of 200 pairs of shoes, you may donate online at the UCLA Women's Basketball Samaritan's Feet page here. Thank you for helping us give back to our community!
Bruin fans in attendance will have a unique opportunity this Sunday to take a photo on center court of New Pauley Pavilion after the Loyola Marymount contest. After the game, fans can bring their camera down to the court and a UCLA staffer will be on hand to help take photos.
