Fresno, Calif. - The fifth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team scored once in each half on Friday evening to post a 2-0 victory over Fresno State before 1,780 fans at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif.

UCLA, which outshot Fresno State, 27-4 on the night, took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute on a play started by senior Chelsea Cline, who one-timed a ball into the box from the left side. Defender Abby Dahlkemper managed to get a head on it, sending it in past Bulldog goalkeeper Katie DeVault for her second goal of the year.

The Bruins (2-0) struck again shortly after halftime, as Cline got in on the scoring action in the 59th minute. Sophomore Kylie McCarthy beat several Fresno State players down the right side of the field before slotting a ball into the box, where Cline was able to finish from close range.

"Overall, I think it was a very solid performance," said UCLA head coach B.J. Snow. "We had a lot of girls really step up both offensively and defensively. Although we played well, we still need to work on our refinement inside the 18-yard box. We created a lot of opportunities, but we need to do a better job finishing those chances. I thought Jenna Richmond probably played the best game she has ever played for UCLA tonight. She was outstanding on both sides of the field and helped create a number of our scoring chances."

Sophomore Katelyn Rowland played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Bruins, picking up her first win of the season. With the loss, Fresno State falls to 0-2-1 overall.

UCLA plays its 2012 home opener on Sunday, hosting Illinois at Noon.
