Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Junior Donna Kerr tossed a one-hitter, tying a season high with 11 strikeouts, while sophomore Samantha Camuso hit her team-leading third home run, as the fourth-ranked Bruins defeated Cal State Northridge 9-0 on Friday at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins (6-1) face Cal Poly in their second game of the evening at 6:30 p.m.

Kerr (4-0) struck out the side in the third and fifth and two apiece in the second and fourth. The only hit she allowed was a leadoff single to Krystal Raphael in the fifth. Kerr also walked three and hit two batters. Offensively, seven different Bruins combined for the team's nine hits.

The Bruins, playing as the visiting team, got on the board right away with a run in the first. Junior Katie Schroeder led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice by freshman B.B. Bates and advanced to third on a groundout by sophomore Andrea Harrison. After senior Megan Langenfeld walked, junior GiOnna DiSalvatore recorded her ninth consecutive hit, a single through the left side to put the Bruins up 1-0.

UCLA left the yard twice in the third to up its lead to 4-0. With one out, Andrea Harrison hit her first home run of the season to right-center to make it 2-0. Langenfeld was then hit by a pitch, and one out later, Camuso homered to left-center for her third bomb of the year.

The Bruins invoked the mercy rule with a five spot in the fourth. UCLA loaded the bases to open the inning on a walk to junior Monica Harrison, a hit by pitch of Schroeder and a bunt single by Bates. Andrea Harrison followed with a bloop single to center to score her sister and when the throw to the infield from Northridge center fielder Alexandria Alvarado got away, Schroeder came home to make it 6-0. The Matadors got the next two outs on comebackers, but Camuso had a single off the pitcher's glove to plate Bates and a two-run double to right-center by senior Julie Burney gave UCLA a 9-0 advantage.
