Golfers Tied for Sixth after First Round at Fall Preview

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for sixth place after the first round of the 2010 NCAA Fall Preview, hosted by Texas A&M at the Traditions Golf Club.

The Bruins posted a team score of 293 (+5) and were 16 shots behind first-place Georgia, which posted a Traditions GC record round of 277 (-11). Vanderbilt was second at 284 (-4), followed by Alabama at 286 (-2) and LSU at 287 (-1). USC was was fifth at 289 (+1). The Bruins were tied with Duke.

Individually for the Bruins, third-year sophomore Lee Lopez celebrated her return to college golf with a sterling round of 67 (-5). After playing the outward nine in one-under par 35, Lopez scorched the inward nine with a 32 (-4), including a birdie on the 18th hole. Junior Stephanie Kono posted a cool 70 (-2) and was tied for ninth place.

Sophomore Tiffany Lua, playing in the No.1 spot, carded a four-over par 76 and was tied for 51st place. Freshman Ani Gulugian and senior Glory Yang each posted scores of 80 (+8) and were tied for 83rd place.

Alabama's Brooke Pancake was the first-round leader after firing an opening score of 65 (-7). Vanderbilt's Marina Alex and Georgia's Emilie Burger were also tied for second place.
