No. 5 UCLA Women's Water Polo Edged by No. 4 California, 4-3

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5 UCLA women's water polo team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 4 California in a first-round contest of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins (3-2) received one goal each from sophomore Sarah Orozco and freshmen Emily Greenwood and Brooke Martin.

The Golden Bears (7-0) were paced by a game-high three goals from Emily Csikos. California's Stephanie Schnugg also added one goal.

UCLA claimed its only lead of the game in the first quarter on a goal from Sarah Orozco. The Golden Bears owned a 2-1 advantage after the first quarter and led 3-1 by halftime.

The Bruins reduced California's margin to one goal - a 4-3 deficit - after three quarters. Martin scored UCLA's second goal of the afternoon before Greenwood netted her lone goal of the day.

Neither team was able to find the back of the cage in the final period.

UCLA sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Dement finished with six saves. California goalkeeper Stephanie Peckham logged seven stops.

The Bruins return to action against No. 3 Hawai'i at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
