The second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team continued their strong play with a 14-3 victory over twentieth-ranked Cal State Northridge. With the win, the Bruins improve to 12-1 on the season, and a perfect 5-0 in MPSF conference play. The Matadors fall to 5-8 overall, and 0-4 in conference play.
UCLA continued its dominant first-quarter play by jumping out to a 4-0 lead on goals by Jillian Kraus, Molly Cahill, and two from Kelly Rulon. Katie Rulon added three goals in the second quarter to help the Bruins take an 11-0 halftime lead. Cal State Northridge notched their first goal with 7:08 to play in the third quarter when a shot from Dayna Van Gorder beat goalkeeper Brittany Fullen to the near post. Fullen had four saves in the victory. Jillian Stapf had eight saves for the Matadors.
Kelly Rulon's five goals tie her own UCLA record for goals in a game. She currently is UCLA's second all-time leading scorer. She is 41 goals away from tying UCLA all-time scorer Coralie Simmons' record of 235 goals.
The Bruins complete their three-game home stand against Pomona-Pitzer at noon tomorrow.
