LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper Chay Lapin totaled a career-high 21 saves to lead the No. 4 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 8 Long Beach State, 9-3, in an MPSF match Sunday afternoon at Long Beach State's Campus Pool.
The victory allowed UCLA (18-5, 4-2 MPSF) to extend its winning streak to six games.
Hohl opened the scoring for UCLA, handing the Bruins a 1-0 lead after one quarter. Both teams traded two goals in the second frame, as UCLA assumed a 3-2 lead at halftime.
The Bruins outscored Long Beach State (8-9, 1-4 MPSF) in the third quarter by a 4-0 margin to secure a 7-2 cushion. UCLA added two more goals in the final frame, as Long Beach State netted its third goal of the day.
Long Beach State received one goal from Jeff Greenwood, Taylor Clute and Jordan Koeppen. Long Beach State's Derek Wiebe-Bailey netted nine stops in the cage.
UCLA returns to action against No. 1 USC in an MPSF showdown at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday, Nov. 7. Game time is 7 p.m.
