UCLA head coach Ben Howland
"I'm really happy with the win. We knew USC would play and inspired. We got a commanding lead early on, but they fought back. You have to give them credit for continuing to fight through adversity this late in the season. Both Wears did well with their double-doubles. Jerime [Anderson] had a good line and played good defense all night. Lamb tweaked his hamstring in practice yesterday, so I have to give him a lot of credit. He did all the right things and his 34 minutes were critical for us.
"We'll take tomorrow off and we'll have to prepare well on Friday for St. John's unique match-up zone."
UCLA sophomore forward David Wear
"I was disappointed with the Cal game and I needed to use that as motivation. I know I needed to come out and play harder and with a different mind-set. It's easy to get motivated and focused for our rivals."
UCLA sophomore Travis Wear
"We had an advantage on offense and were able to run our sets and get tip-outs for offensive rebounds. We just made a more conscious effort to rebound well."
USC head coach Kevin O'Neill
"We're a team that's lost five starters from last year and four from this year, but our guys really dug in in the second half. We didn't turn the ball over. We got good shots. We put ourselves in position. We were two shots away from making it a game, but the bottom line is that we are out-manned top to bottom. Our guys fought hard and did what they needed to do to hang in the game, rebounded as well as they could against that size and did a decent job, so I'm proud of our effort and what we are going to do is play like that the rest of the way.
"Our program is going to be built on what has been the last two years and that's hard-nosed, man-to-man defense and guard-your- man and block-out, and once we have enough players again next year, we are going to be the same kind of defensive team that we were a year ago. That's just something we've got to get through right now.
"Well that's [UCLA] a good team there. They were picked 12th nationally and to win our league. I think you have to take into consideration that they haven't played a home game all year. These guys have been forced to play at a neutral site every single game. They are the kind of team that could easily go to the conference tournament and win it. Their front line, which I think besides North Carolina is the best in America, they're always going to have a chance to win games. They just wore us down tonight."
USC sophomore forward Garrett Jackson
"It was tough tonight. We were short-handed, but we got some good looks. We were just not hitting the shots. Byron [Wesley] really attacked well. We were playing really scrappy. We just really have to work on our outside shooting.
"Greg Allen really picked it up, especially near the end. He hit some big shots. You just have to keep grinding, fighting and finish strong. We've got lots of pride."
