SAN DIEGO - The No. 23 UCLA baseball team surrendered four runs in the seventh inning, falling by a 6-3 margin at San Diego State on Tuesday evening. Left-hander Matt Drummond (0-2) was tagged with the loss, despite limiting the host Aztecs (13-10) to two runs and three hits in a career-high 5.2 innings of relief.

Aztec right-hander James McLaughlin (2-0) picked up the victory, hurling two innings of hitless relief. San Diego State's Shane Kaufman finished with nine strikeouts in his third start of the season, allowing two runs and six hits in six innings.

UCLA shortstop Brandon Crawford led the Bruins (10-9) with a 3-for-4 performance, including one triple and two singles. Catcher Ryan Babineau registered a team-leading two RBI.

Second baseman Garett Green led San Diego State at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Right fielder Pat Colwell posted a 2-for-5 effort with two runs and two singles for the Aztecs.

San Diego State's four-run seventh inning, which snapped a 2-2 tie, keyed the Aztecs' victory. Colwell reached on a one-out single through the middle and shortstop Troy Hanzawa followed with a RBI-triple to center field. A groundout by third baseman Nick Romero sent home Hanzawa. Green followed with a solo homer to left field. With two outs, the Aztecs added their fourth run in the frame on a double steal - center fielder Brandon Glover broke to second, and in the pickle, designated hitter Cory Vaughn scored.

The Aztecs got on the board with a 1-0 first inning lead, as Colwell scored from second on a single to left field by Green.

UCLA took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. After a leadoff double to right-center by third baseman Jermaine Curtis, right fielder Gabe Cohen ripped a base-hit to left field, sending home Curtis. With two outs, catcher Ryan Babineau laced a high-bouncing ball through the middle, scoring Cohen from third base.

San Diego State responded on the first pitch in the fourth, as Vaughn belted a solo home run over the left field fence, tying the contest, 2-2.

UCLA returns to the field this weekend, opening Pac-10 play at Arizona on Friday, March 28. Game time at Frank Sancet Field at Jerry Kindall Field is slated for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Brett Krill recorded his first hit as a Bruin, lining an 0-and-2 count pitch into center field in the top of the third inning...both Krill and Raul Duran made their first collegiate starts - Krill in left field and Duran in right field...left-hander Justin Uribe allowed one run and two hits, recording two outs in the first inning before exiting the game (arm injury)...Brandon Crawford moved into a five-way tie at No. 5 on UCLA's career triples list (9)...Alden Carrithers' career-high 10-game hit streak ended.
