Sophomore goalkeeper Chay Lapin (Long Beach, CA/Wilson HS) of the UCLA men's water polo team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 23-28.
Lapin recorded a career-high 15 saves to lead the third-ranked UCLA men's water polo team past top-ranked USC, 9-5, on Sunday afternoon before a standing-room only crowd at UCLA's Sunset Recreation Center. Lapin thwarted both of USC's five-meter penalty shots as UCLA handed USC its first loss of the season. The 9-5 score marked UCLA's most lopsided win over USC since 1989 and improved the Bruins' record to 16-5 (3-2 in the MPSF).
This is Lapin's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
Also nominated: Kyle Bosworth, Football; Kevin Chappell, M. Golf; Maxwell Griffin, M. Soccer; Valerie Henderson, W. Soccer; Austin Ramos, M. Cross Country.
