Women's Tennis Players Begin Play at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES -In the prequalifying for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at UCLA on Sunday, both the Bruins' singles entrants fell in the final round.

Freshman Courtney Dolehide lost to Baylor's Sona Novakova, 6-2, 7-5, while Pamela Montez lost to Fresno State's Marianne Jodin, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Junior McCall Jones and Montez did, however, earn a spot in the qualifying doubles draw with a win on Sunday.

Play moves over to the Riviera Tennis Club beginning on Tuesday.

On the men's side, freshman men's tennis player Clay Thompson was the lone Bruin to advance through prequalifying and into the qualifying draw at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. on Sunday.

Thompson, who defeated Tennessee's Max Stevens, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the final round of prequalifying, joins seniors Nick Meister and Amit Inbar in the qualifying draw, which begins on Monday.

UCLA's Alex Brigham fell just short in his bid to reach the qualifying draw, as he fell in the final round on Sunday to Virginia's Philippe Oudshoorn, 7-6(8), 7-6(3).
