Viuf, Rowe, Murakami & Krais Highlight Women's Track & Field In Florida

Katy Viuf, Ryann Krais, Lindsay Rowe and Shannon Murakami highlighted the women's track and field team on Saturday in Gainesville, FL at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic.

Viuf had a huge day for the Bruins, clearing a lifetime-best 14-2 in the pole vault to win. That mark is a new lifetime-best (old best 14-1.25) and moves her to No. 3 all-time in UCLA history behind Chelsea Johnson and Tracy O'Hara. The mark also ranks third in the NCAA this season. Teammate Tori Pena also had a solid pole vault day as she cleared 14-0 to finish second to Viuf.

Krais, who was pulling double duty in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, posted season-best marks in both events. She was fifth in the high hurdles with a time of 14.12. She was the top collegiate finisher (third overall) in the intermediates, running 58.96. That time is one of the top 25 in the NCAA this season.

Rowe ran a season-best 100m hurdles time in the preliminary rounds (13.50) and then set a new lifetime-best in the finals with her second-place time of 13.36. That mark ranks amongst the top 20 in the NCAA this season and is 10th all-time in UCLA history. She was the top collegiate finisher in the event.

Murakami won the 1500m with a new lifetime-best run of 4:25.10.

Ashlea McLaughlin also had a nice day for UCLA as she ran a lifetime-best 24.20 in the 200m to finish eighth overall. She also anchored the 4x400m relay to a season-best time by over five seconds, running 3:35.60 to win (Eaton, Curry, Barlow, McLaughlin). That times ranks 10th in the NCAA this season. McLaughlin also anchored the 4x100m relay to a third-place finish (45.73).

Eaton ran a season-best 54.38 in the 400m to finish sixth overall. Barlow ran a lifetime-best 55.85 in the 400m, placing 12th overall. Yasmin Woodruff ran a season-best 24.34 in the 200m, finishing ninth overall.

In field event action, Mariah Gibson was second in the high jump (5-6), Danielle Watson was third in the long jump (19-3.50), Dayna Hill placed sixth in the triple jump (36-9) and Catherine White was 10th in the discus (130-7) and 12th in the shot put (43-2.25).

While most of the women's team was in Florida, a few athletes competed at the Mt. SAC Relays. Kelcie Wiemann ran a lifetime-best in the 5000m (section b), running 17:06.96 to finish 17th overall. Taryn Pastoor was 32nd in her section of the 10,000m with a time of 37.52.58.

A few athletes will head to San Diego next weekend for the UCSD Triton Invite, but most of the team will be resting in preparation for the UCLA/USC Dual Meet, held May 1st in Drake Stadium.
