STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team earned a 10-9 victory in MPSF action over No. 7 Pacific on Sunday afternoon. Senior Jacob Murphy and freshman Cristiano Mirarchi each scored two goals to lead the visiting Bruins (9-3, 1-1 MPSF).

UCLA also received one goal each from seniors Ben Hohl, junior Cullen Hennessy, sophomores Clinton Jorth, Bret Lathrope and Griffin White and freshman Aimone Barabino.

Pacific got on the board first with a goal from Austin Delong at 5:25 in the opening frame, before UCLA countered with a goal from Murphy at 3:08 to tie the contest.

Pacific's Balazs Erdelyi, who finished the contest with a game-high three goals, kicked off the second period by winning the sprint before putting Pacific (9-5, 0-1 MPSF) ahead by a 2-1 cushion at 5:47 with his first goal of the day. UCLA answered with goals from Lathrope (3:05) and Mirarchi (2:30) to lead, 3-2. With 15 seconds remaining in the first half, Pacific's Joey Gullikson tied the game, 3-3.

UCLA claimed a 5-3 lead in the third quarter on consecutive goals from Barabino (7:17) and Clinton Jorth (5:46). The host Tigers countered 21 seconds later on a goal from Jason Wensley, slicing UCLA's lead to 5-4. The Bruins pushed their margin to three goals on consecutive scores from Murphy (4:25) and White (1:50).

Pacific cut UCLA's advantage to 7-6 with back-to-back goals from Tom Koning (1:36) and Gullikson (0:47). The Bruins claimed a two-point lead on Hohl's goal near the end of the third quarter.

Mirarchi scored his second of two goals with 6:09 to play in the game, giving UCLA a 9-6 cushion. Erdelyi countered for Pacific with 3:22 remaining before Koning's goal at 2:33 put the Tigers to within one goal of UCLA. With 2:05 left in the game, Hennessy tacked on UCLA's final goal of the day, putting the Bruins ahead, 10-8. Pacific scored its ninth goal on a shot from Erdelyi with 1:40 remaining.

UCLA junior goalkeeper Andrew Mesesan netted six saves in the cage. Pacific goalkeeper Alex Malkis registered eight stops for the Tigers.

No. 2 UCLA returns to action against No. 6 Stanford on Friday, Oct. 15. Game time at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center is slated for 7 p.m.
