LOS ANGELES - For the first time since 2008, the UCLA women's tennis team has ascended to the No. 1 ranking in America, as the Bruins were listed atop Tuesday's ITA Team Rankings ahead of No. 2 USC. Interestingly enough, the two teams are scheduled to face off on Thursday at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium at 1:30 p.m.

The last time that UCLA was ranked No. 1 in the country was on May 27, 2008 after the Bruins captured the NCAA title. The Bruins earned this week's top ranking after capturing the ITA National Team Indoors two weeks ago in Virginia. At 11-0, UCLA is off to its best start in 20 years. The last time that the Bruins started 11-0 was during the 1992 season.

Thursday marks the second meeting between UCLA and USC this season, as the Bruins' road to the Indoor title included a 4-0 victory over the Women of Troy in the semifinals. The series history between the two teams couldn't be much closer, with USC owning a slight 44-43 advantage. UCLA, however, has won five-straight matches in the series.

UCLA is coming off of a dramatic, 4-3 victory over No. 5 Cal at the Los Angeles Tennis Center last week. With the dual match tied at 3-3, Bruin junior Pamela Montez posted the clinching win for UCLA at court No. 3, downing Anett Schutting, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. It was a great comeback for the Bruins, who at one point were trailing 3-1.

In addition to the team rankings, individual rankings were also released on Tuesday. UCLA continues to have more singles players ranked than any other school, as seven Bruins are currently listed in the ITA Top 125. Leading the way is freshman Robin Anderson, who moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 in this week's rankings. She is followed by: Courtney Dolehide (No. 70), Montez (No. 74), Kaitlin Ray (No. 80), Chanelle Van Nguyen (No. 94), McCall Jones (No. 104) and Skylar Morton (No. 107). The Bruins also have two doubles teams ranked in the top 20, with Anderson and Morton checking in at No. 14, followed by Dolehide and Montez at No. 15. Complete ITA rankings can be found HERE.
