LOS ANGELES - The UCLA men's basketball team hosted its annual media day Wednesday afternoon on campus. The team gathered in the Student Activities Center for team photos before addressing questions from the media in the J.D. Morgan Center.
UCLA unveiled its 17-man roster, which features eight new additions from last season's team. The class breakdown includes one senior (Larry Drew II), six juniors, four sophomores and six freshmen.
Entering his 10th year as the program's head coach, Ben Howland met with the media in the team's practice facility for 20 minutes. Following the head coach's remarks, 11 players were available to the media in a press conference format in the J.D. Morgan Center.
"This is a day when it really starts to click in my mind that we are getting started," Howland said. "We're ready to go. It's a great day because of all this attention that this program garners and all the outstanding media coverage that we receive."
Howland's day began with the annual Wooden College Basketball Preseason Tip-Off Luncheon, hosted in the afternoon by the Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown Los Angeles. The annual media luncheon features either the head coach or an assistant coach from each of 13 local college basketball programs.
UCLA begins practice on Friday, Oct. 12. The Bruins will open the 2012-13 season against Indiana State in New Pauley Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 9. The season opener will mark UCLA's first athletic event in the Bruins' home arena since the building was closed for renovations in March 2011.
