The fifth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team had its three-match winning streak snapped Wednesday at The Pyramid in a five-game loss to No. 13 Long Beach State.
The 49ers won 30-23, 24-30, 26-30, 30-23, 16-14 in two hours and 10 minutes before 881 fans. The loss dropped the Bruins to 10-8 overall, 8-7 in MPSF play. The 49ers ended a three-match skid and raised their record to 7-8, 4-7. The Bruins have not won at The Pyramid since 2002.
UCLA seniors Steve Klosterman and Paul George combined for 46 kills in the setback. Klosterman smashed 27 kills and hit .431, while George recorded 19 kills and hit .394. The Bruins' Tony Ker added 11 digs.
Dean Bittner led the 49ers, who hit .331 for the match, with 21 kills (.432).
UCLA returns home on Fri., Mar. 2 to host UC San Diego in a 7 p.m. MPSF match at Pauley Pavilion.
