LOS ANGELES - The No. 1-ranked UCLA women's water polo team remained undefeated with a 13-6 win over Pacific in an MPSF match on Sunday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. Keyed by two five-goal quarters, the Bruins proved to be too much for the Tigers as they improved to 20-0 all-time against Pacific and 24-0 (10-0 MPSF) on the season.
Senior Jillian Kraus started the Bruins off with a goal 19 seconds into the match, but Pacific answered seconds later with a goal by Virginia McConnell. UCLA scored four more goals to takea 5-1 first-quarter lead.
In the second quarter, the Bruins tacked on two more goals from Kraus and senior Courtney Mathewson to lead 7-1. Up one player after an exclusion, Pacific took advantage as Alex Kutac netted a goal with just over a minute before halftime to close the Tigers' deficit to 7-2.
The Bruins held Pacific scoreless in the third quarter, amassing five goals by four different women. Camy Sullivan tallied two goals during the third quarter, while Priscilla Orozco, Kamaile Crowell and Monica Powers each netted one goal.
In the fourth quarter, Kelly Easterday switched into goal for junior Brittany Fullen as Pacific scored four goals. Fullen finished with three saves and Easterday logged one save. The Bruins tallied one goal by Melissa Mordell in the final period.
