ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Senior Tanya Gandy scored a game-high three goals to lead the No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team past No. 10 Michigan, 10-4, on Sunday afternoon in the Bruins' final contest at the Michigan Invitational.
Gandy finished the weekend having scored three goals in each of the Bruins' three matches. Against Michigan, UCLA (3-0) also received two goals from sophomore Priscilla Orozco.
UCLA trailed, 2-0, midway through the first quarter before senior Kim Nelson found the back of the cage with 2:13 to play in the opening period, slicing the Wolverines' lead to 2-1.
The Bruins outscored Michigan by a 5-0 margin through the second and third quarters to assume a 6-2 advantage. Gandy and senior Anne Belden scored one goal each in the second frame. Senior Katie Rulon, Orozco and Gandy each added one goal in the third period.
In the fourth quarter, UCLA outscored Michigan by a 4-2 margin.
Senior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen registered a season-high 12 saves in the cage for UCLA. Michigan's Brittany May recorded 10 saves in the game's first three quarters.
The Bruins return to action at Long Beach State in a non-conference match against the 49ers on Thursday, Feb. 5. Game time is 7 p.m.
