UCLA Women's Water Polo Inks Five Talented Players for 2009

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's water polo program has signed five talented high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Adam Krikorian announced this week. The five high school standouts committed to UCLA during the early signing period and will report to campus in the fall of 2008.

"All five students are great athletes and very coachable young women," Krikorian said. "Each student-athlete is very competitive, and we look forward to their contributions in the years to come."

The group of five signees includes two All-WCAL selections - Caroline Clark and Kristen Simonds - and three All-CIF honorees - Caitlin Dement, Sarah Orozco and Hannah Sebenaler.

Caroline Clark
Atherton, Calif. (Sacred Heart Prep)
Defender - 6-2

Scored 60 goals in 24 regular-season matches her senior season, including 14 goals in six WCAL contests...her total of 60 goals ranked second most among all WCAL scoring leaders...earned first-team All-WCAL honors as a defender in 2007...scored two goals in the 2007 CIF Central Coast Section Division II Championship, leading Sacred Heart Prep past St. Francis, 6-1; Sacred Heart Prep had never advanced to the CIF championship contest...also guided Sacred Heart Prep to the 2007 Amanda MacDonald Invitational title, scoring three goals in a 12-1 win over Palo Alto...member of the National Youth Team...a talented swimmer, Clark has also earned National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association All-America honors.

Caitlin Dement
Chino, Calif. (Ayala)
Goalkeeper - 6-0

Helped lead Ayala as the 2007 CIF Southern Section Division III Runner-up her junior season; Ayala finished with a 27-6 record...captured CIF-SS Division III first-team accolades in 2007 and 2006...earned 2007 California-Hawaii 10th-team All-America honors...recently named the "Best Goalkeeper" at the U.S. Top 40 Tournament...guided Ayala to the 2006 CIF-SS Division II Championship her sophomore season.

Sarah Orozco
Commerce, Calif. (Montebello)
Driver - 5-6

Led Montebello as the 2007 CIF Southern Section Division I Runner-up her junior season, scoring one goal in the title game...played alongside her sister, Priscilla (currently a freshman at UCLA); combined with Priscilla to score five goals in Montebello's 8-7 CIF semifinal victory over Corona del Mar...gained 2007 CIF-SS Division I second-team honors...also helped guide Montebello to the CIF-SS Division I championship contest as a sophomore in 2006...member of the National Youth Team.

Hannah Sebenaler
Coronado, Calif. (Coronado)
Driver - 5-7

Captured 2007 San Diego Union-Tribune All-Section first-team accolades her junior season...also earned first-team All-City Conference honors as a junior...gained second-team All-CIF Division II honors and second-team All-Western League accolades as a sophomore (2006)...served as an alternate on the 2005 Women's National Youth Team Training Roster...also earned first-team All-CIF honors in lacrosse.

Kristen Simonds
San Jose, Calif. (Archbishop Mitty)
Goalkeeper - 6-2

Helped lead Archbishop Mitty to the 2006 CIF Central Coast Section Division I Championship, defeating St. Francis, 5-2...Archbishop Mitty posted a 21-10 overall record and finished second in the Western Catholic Athletic League (WCAL)...totaled 36 saves and registered a 4.67 goals against average in six WCAL matches...earned 2006 first-team All-WCAL honors her junior season.
