Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA sophomore guard Doreena Campbell was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for January 5-11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Campbell, a native of Alexandria, Va., led UCLA to its first regular-season victory in four years against crosstown rival USC, besting the Trojans, 87-75, on Sunday. Campbell led the Bruins in scoring with 20 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the win. She also had four assists and one steal.
The sophomore guard keyed an impressive 12-2 UCLA run in the second half, hitting three-consecutive shots from the floor, including back-to-back three pointers. Campbell also made four baskets beyond the arc in the contest, tying a career best.
This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Campbell and the 38th all-time for UCLA.
Up next, the Bruins travel to Tempe, Ariz., to face the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thurs., Jan. 15, then face Arizona on Sat., Jan. 17 in Tucson, Ariz.
