BRUINS HEAD UP TO THE CENTRAL COAST
The 16th-ranked Bruins (20-6) travel north for three games, as they face UC Santa Barbara (12-19) on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Cal Poly (7-13) in a Tuesday doubleheader at 1 p.m. Gametracker will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.

ON DECK
UCLA opens up Pac-12 Conference play against Oregon State at Easton Stadium. Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 31 and 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 1.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
The Bruins came in at 16th for the second straight week in both national polls. Despite not playing, UCLA picked up five points in the USA Today/NFCA poll, while receiving the same number of points in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings.

BRUINS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Through games played on March 18, the Bruins are the nation's leader in batting average at .372. UCLA is 12 points ahead of second-place Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Bruins are also in the Top 10 in four other categories, ranking fourth in slugging (.606), tied for sixth in triples (10), tied for seventh in doubles (44) and tied for eighth in home runs (34). Individually, senior Katie Schroeder is 14th in runs per game (1.15), 24th in on base percentage (.552) and 28th in batting average (.452). Senior Samantha Camuso is also listed in three categories, coming in at tied for 17th with three triples, 19th in slugging (.861) and tied for 35th in batting average (.444). Sophomore Jessica Hall is tied for sixth with three saves, freshman Stephany LaRosa is tied for 17th with three triples and senior Dani Yudin is 30th with a .542 on base percentage.

NEWS AND NOTES
Along with their Pac-12-best .372 batting average, the Bruins are also second in the conference in slugging (.606), doubles (44), triples (10), home runs (34), total bases (430) and sacrifice flies (12). The full listing of UCLA team and individual standings in the Pac-12 is available on page five of this release ... the Bruins are 15-0 this season when scoring at least six runs and 14-0 when limiting their opponent to two runs or fewer ... the Bruins are 13-0 when leading after five innings ... UCLA is 7-0 when it doesn't make an error in a game and 17-1 when its opponent makes a miscue ... half of the Bruins' 34 home runs have been solo shots. Eleven of the 34 have been leadoff homers. The third inning has been the best for homers, as the Bruins have 13 ... the Bruins have scored 25.4% of their runs with two outs (48-of-189) ... freshman Ally Carda has allowed zero or one run in three of her last four appearances ... senior Marti Reed has a pair of two-RBI games (Kentucky - Feb. 11; at LMU - Feb. 14), the first two of her career ... senior Samantha Camuso, who has two hitting streaks of seven games this season, has hits in 22 of 25 contests ... in five of the 10 games in which sophomore Talee Snow has a hit, she has added another for a multiple-hit contest ... freshman Stephany LaRosa belted the Bruins' first grand slam of the year on March 9 against Long Beach State, as she drove in a career-high five ... junior Destiny Rodino has allowed no runs in five of her eight appearances in the circle ... sophomore Jessica Hall has allowed just three earned runs over her last 21 1/3 innings (0.98 earned run average) with 27 strikeouts ... senior Andrea Harrison posted her seventh, two-homer game at LMU. Only Stacey Nuveman (12) has more two-homer contests for the Bruins. Harrison, who is fifth in UCLA history in homers (46), is also fourth in slugging (.652), ninth in RBI (162) and hit by pitches (16), tied for ninth in doubles (43) and 10th in total bases (401) ... junior B.B. Bates tied a career high with a nine-game hitting streak (March 2-10) in which she hit .370 (10-for-27) with eight RBI, eight runs scored and two home runs ... sophomore Kellie Fox tied a career high with five runs batted in and posted her second two-homer game against Michigan State on March 7 ... senior Katie Schroeder ranks in the UCLA Top 10 in six categories. She is fourth in on base percentage (.475) and walks (100), fifth in hit by pitches (26), sixth in runs scored (170) and tied for sixth in batting average (.374) and stolen bases (40) ... junior Devon Lindvall appeared behind the plate for the first three times in her softball career against Pacific (Feb. 11), Boise State (Feb. 17) and Fresno State (Feb. 25) ... senior Dani Yudin has reached base in 22 of 26 games and had a seven-game hitting streak from March 3-10 (.529 BA, five RBI).

SCOUTING THE UC SANTA BARBARA GAUCHOS
The Gauchos will take a 12-19 record into Saturday's matchup with their UC sistren, coming off a 2-2 weekend at their home tournament that saw them beat San Jose State twice while losing to Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. UC Santa Barbara is 0-8 this season against teams currently ranked in the Top 25. The Gauchos are batting .248 as a team with eight home runs and 23 stolen bases, averaging 2.6 runs per game. Freshman McKenzie Kane is the lone player batting over .300, coming in at a .325 clip with a team-best 14 runs scored and five stolen bases. Sophomore Kathryn Pilpil is tops on the squad with 11 runs batted in to go with a .292 batting average, while junior Jessica Soria is hitting .294 with a team-best 12 steals. In the circle, freshman Shelby Wisdom is 7-9 with a 3.61 earned run average and 104 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings, while sophomore Andriana Collins is 5-10 with a 4.36 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings.

THE MATCHUP: BRUINS VS. GAUCHOS
Saturday's meeting marks the second between the Bruins and the Gauchos this season. UCLA recorded an 8-0, six-inning victory in San Diego on Feb. 19. Katie Schroeder went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Andrea Harrison posted two doubles and a run batted in. Ally Carda tossed five innings of two-hit ball, striking out four, while Destiny Rodino pitched a scoreless sixth inning. The Bruins lead the all-time series 68-4 and have won five in a row. UCLA is 25-1 in games played in Santa Barbara, including a doubleheader sweep (14-0 in 5 innings, 11-1 in 6) on Feb. 17, 2010. The Gauchos' last win in the series was a 7-2 triumph at Easton Stadium on March 24, 2009, while their only victory at home was a 1-0 decision on April 23, 1986.

SCOUTING THE CAL POLY MUSTANGS
Cal Poly boasts a 7-13 record and will host the Mustang Classic this weekend before entertaining UCLA for a pair on Tuesday. Weekend rains washed away six games for the Mustangs last weekend. Cal Poly is 0-4 against teams currently ranked in the Top 25, with all losses coming against Pac-12 squads (California, Oregon, Arizona State and Stanford). The Mustangs are hitting .237 as a team with five home runs and eight stolen bases, averaging 3.2 runs per game. Sophomore Kim Westlund is first on the team with a .351 batting average and 13 runs batted in, adding two home runs. Senior Nora Sobczak is second with a .302 batting average and a team-best 12 runs scored, while sophomore Madi Vogelsang has a team-best three home runs. In the circle, junior Rebecca Patton is 5-6 with a 4.75 earned run average and 47 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings. Freshman Chloe Wurst is 2-5 with a 5.38 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings.

THE MATCHUP: BRUINS VS. MUSTANGS
The Bruins are 25-3 all-time against the Mustangs and have won 18 in a row in the series. Last season, UCLA recorded a 4-0 victory in San Diego on March 5. The Bruins are 5-1 in games played in San Luis Obispo, including a doubleheader sweep on March 23, 2010 (5-3 and 4-1). Cal Poly's last win in the series was a 1-0 triumph on April 6, 1997 in San Luis Obispo.
