LOS ANGELES - Right-hander Trevor Bauer (8-3) threw his second consecutive complete game, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts while issuing just one walk, to lead the UCLA baseball team to a 9-4 victory against California on Saturday at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Bauer's effort helped UCLA (24-23, 14-9 Pac-10) even the three-game Pac-10 series against California (21-27, 7-16 Pac-10) at one game apiece. The freshman from Valencia, Calif., earned his team-leading eighth win, becoming just the third freshman pitcher on school history to record eight wins or more in their rookie campaign. Bauer allowed four runs and eight hits in nine innings, throwing his team-leading third complete game of the season.

The Bruins' offense totaled nine runs and 11 hits, as right fielder Chris Giovinazzo led the way going 2-for-4 with two runs and a game-high three RBI. First baseman Cody Decker went 2-for-3 with one home run and a game-high three runs. Center fielder Blair Dunlap was 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

California left-hander Todd Fitzgerald (0-1) absorbed the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) and five hits in three innings. The Golden Bears were led at the plate by designated hitter Blake Smith (2-for-4) and second baseman Jeff Kobernus (2-for-5).

UCLA captured a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Decker led off the inning with a solo homer to left field, his team-leading 16th round-tripper of the season. After a base-hit by Dunlap and bunt single by Giovinazzo, left fielder Krill was safe at first on a fielding error by shortstop Brian Guinn to load the bases. A double by Gallego down the right field line scored two runners, before third baseman Tyler Rahmatulla's single sent home Gallego.

California sliced the Bruins' advantage in half, 4-2, with a two-run third inning. An RBI-triple to the gap in right-center field by Kobernus scored left fielder Rich Gorman, who opened the frame with a walk. A single to right field by Guinn plated Kobernus from third base.

UCLA extended its advantage to 8-2 in the sixth. With the bases loaded, Giovinazzo brought home all three baserunners with a double to center field. A double by Krill allowed Giovinazzo to score from second base.

The Bruins added their ninth run in the bottom of the eighth. After reaching second base with a two-out double, Decker scored on a single to left field by Dunlap.

California scored one pair of runs in the top of the ninth. With two outs, third baseman Austin Booker lined a double down the left field line, scoring baserunners from first and second.

UCLA and California conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon. Game time at Jackie Robinson Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. Fans can listen to a live audio broadcast, free of charge, online at uclabruins.com.

Game Notes: UCLA honored Rachel Robinson, wife of the late Jackie Robinson, on the field after the second inning - Rachel Robinson received the UCLA Medal on campus earlier in the afternoon ...Blair Dunlap and Cody Decker have each hit safely in the last six games...Trevor Bauer has become the third Bruin pitcher to notch eight or more wins as a freshman - Pete Janicki tallied nine victories in 1990, and Josh Karp won eight games in 1999...Cody Decker became the first UCLA player to hit 16 home runs or more in a single season since 2002, when West Whisler and Adam Berry each belted 18...Brett Krill made one of the Bruins' most sensational defensive plays of the season in the top of the seventh inning - with runners aboard second and third base and two outs, Krill lept on the warning track to catch a deep fly ball in left field, before immediately crashing into the fence.
