Sophomore forward Lauren Cheney (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis HS) of the UCLA women's soccer team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Cheney extended her goal-scoring streak to six-straight games over the weekend, helping the top-ranked Bruins to wins over Arizona State and Arizona. Against ASU on Friday, Cheney scored the Bruins' first goal and then assisted on the game-winner by Danesha Adams as UCLA took a 3-1 victory. Cheney came back on Sunday to score her team-leading seventh game-winning-goal in the Bruins' 3-0 victory over Arizona, as UCLA remained perfect in Pac-10 play at 7-0. Cheney, who entered the week leading the nation in goals per game, has a conference-best 46 points on 19 goals and eight assists. UCLA, which is going for Pac-10-record five-straight championships, has outscored its Pac-10 opponents 16-1 in seven matches.
This is Cheney's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
