NCAA Women's Tennis Regionals
May 14-15 @ Los Angeles, Calif.
Los Angeles Tennis Center
The sixth-seeded UCLA women's tennis team (18-5) begins NCAA Regional competition at the Los Angeles Tennis Center this Saturday, taking on Quinnipiac (14-8) beginning at Noon. The other NCAA Regional match that day features San Diego (18-5) facing UNLV (20-5) at 9:00 a.m. Saturday's winners will meet in the second round on Sunday at Noon, with the winner of that match advancing to the round of 16 the following week in Stanford, Calif.
Quinnipiac is actually making its second NCAA Regional appearance at UCLA, as the Bobcats suffered a 4-0 loss to the Bruins in the 2007 NCAA First Round. The only NCAA Regional opponent that UCLA has faced this year is San Diego, whom the Bruins beat 4-0 back on Jan. 29 during ITA Kickoff Weekend.
UCLA enters the NCAA Tournament on a hot streak, winning 11 of its last 12 matches to close out the year. The Bruins' lone setback was a 6-1 loss to Stanford at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on March 25. Since then, UCLA has won seven in a row, including a 5-2 road victory over No. 14 USC to close out the regular season.
The Bruins currently have five players ranked in singles led by Noelle Hickey at No. 41. She is followed by No. 57 McCall Jones, No. 76 Andrea Remynse, No. 77 Courtney Dolehide and No. 97 Pamela Montez. UCLA's top two doubles teams are also ranked, as Dolehide and Remynse check in at No. 23, followed by Hickey and Jones at No. 24.
If UCLA can win a pair of matches this weekend, the Bruins are looking at a potential matchup with 11th-seeded Virginia on Friday, May 20 at Stanford.
