LOS ANGELES - UCLA redshirt senior women's soccer player Kara Lang suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Bruins' match at Cal State Northridge last Friday.
The injury, which occurred in the 21st minute of UCLA's 2-0 win, is a re-tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. Lang suffered a similar injury prior to her sophomore year at UCLA and was forced to redshirt the entire 2006 season.
"I feel extremely sorry for Kara to have suffered this type of injury during her senior year," said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. "She is a vital part of this program and I know she will continue to be with us and support this team in some capacity the rest of the season. Kara is a strong individual, and I have full confidence that she will rebound from this injury and continue to have a successful soccer career."
Lang had started all nine of UCLA's matches prior to her injury. She currently ranks fourth on the team in scoring with seven points (3g, 1a).
