Turquoise Thompson will be heading to her third straight NCAA Championship meet after winning her heat of the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Prelim round in Austin, TX on Friday. Thompson was running out of lane five in heat one and easily won her heat (56.51) to advance to Nationals, held June 6-9 in Des Moines, IA. Her time was the second-fastest mark in all three heats.

She will join freshman Kylie Price at Nationals as Price qualified on Thursday in the long jump.

Freshman Brea Buchanan qualified for Saturday's quarterfinal round of the 100m hurdles after finishing third in heat two on Friday. The top three finishers in each heat advanced to the quarters. Her time of 13.49 was a lifetime-best, but wind-aided (+3.4).

In the quarterfinal round of the 800m, sophomore Paisley Pettway was running in heat three out of lane nine. She finished eighth in her heat and 23rd overall with a time of 2:10.94.Pettway does not advance to the NCAA semifinals in Iowa.

In the pole vault, three Bruins were in action - junior Allison Koressel and sophomores Tasha Kolbo and Courtney Reginato. Reginato and Kolbo entered the competition at opening height, 12-4.50, while Koressel passed. Kolbo made it over the bar on her third attempt. Reginato was over the bar on her first attempt, but her pole was blown back into it knocking it off the standards. Due to the wind gusts, she was given a clearance at that height and continued in the competition.

All three women cleared the next height of 12-10.25 and were still in the competition as the bar moved to 13-4.25. Reginato came close, but could not clear the bar. Kolbo cleared it on her third attempt, giving her a new lifetime-best (previous best, 13-1.50). Koressel also cleared and the bar then moved to 13-8.25. Unfortunately, neither woman could clear the bar and they were knocked out of the competition. Koressel finished 18th, Kolbo was 19th and Reginato tied for 20th.

Kolbo's career clearance of 13-4.25 moves her into the UCLA all-time top-10 at the No. 9 spot.

In the high jump competition, sophomore Alexis Walker finished in a tie for 16th overall. She passed opening height of 5-5.25 and then cleared 5-7.25 and 5-9.25 to continue in the competition. The bar moved to 5-10.75, which would equal her lifetime-best, but she could not clear it, bowing out of the competition with a top ump of 5-9.25.

Competition concludes on Saturday with the women's 4x400m relay, Kelsey Smith in the 5000m, Buchanan in the 100m hurdles, Faith Anumba in the triple jump and Ida Storm in the hammer.
