UCLA women's basketball head coach Nikki Caldwell was honored last Saturday by the LadyLike Foundation with its Woman of Excellence Award.
The LadyLike Foundation annually honors mothers and daughters in the community who have set the standard of excellence in their homes, communities, churches, organizations, occupations and in society. The Foundation honored Caldwell for her excellence as the head coach of the UCLA women's basketball team as well as for her contribution to the community and cause to fight breast cancer.
Caldwell, with her Champions for a Cause charitable organization, has helped raise nearly $100,000 towards breast cancer awareness, most recently taking part in the third annual Cruisin' For A Cause motorcycle ride. In February, she and the Bruin women's basketball team hosted the First Annual Carnival for the Cure. Following the carnival, UCLA hosted Arizona State in a Pac-10 Conference game, with both teams wearing special pink jerseys to support the cause. After the game, UCLA auctioned off its jerseys, raising over $3,000 for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center and the Iris Cantor-UCLA Women's Health Education & Resource Center.
