Los Angeles - Senior right-hander Tyson Brummett (2-1) pitched a complete game victory, striking out nine batters and not giving up any walks, as the 15th-ranked UCLA baseball team defeated East Carolina, 6-1 at Jackie Robinson Stadium Friday evening. Sophomores Brandon Crawford and Tim Murphy both posted 2-for-4 performances for the Bruins.

Brummett allowed just one run off six hits and escaped a bases-loaded jam with one out in the seventh inning. East Carolina outfielders Ryan Tousley and Jake Dean led off the seventh inning with singles, and Tousley scored from second on third baseman Broc Sutton's single to left. Ryan Wood loaded the bases with a pinch-hit single, before Brummett struck out catcher David Forbes swinging and center fielder Harrison Eldridge looking.

UCLA (4-4) assumed a 4-0 lead using four hits in the bottom of the second. Freshman Justin Uribe hit into a fielder's choice, the second out of the inning, and moved sophomore Ryan Babineau to third. Senior Nolan Rouse singled to left field, plating Babineau and sending Uribe to second.

Junior Alden Carrithers bounced to the right side of the infield for a base hit, allowing Uribe to score and Rouse to move to third base. Sophomore Brandon Crawford followed with a line-drive base hit to right field, bringing home Carrithers and Rouse. East Carolina starter T.J. Hose was charged with four runs in the four-run inning and finished the evening having surrended five runs on seven hits.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, East Carolina (2-2) replaced Hose with left-hander Jason Neitz. On the second pitch from Neitz, freshman Gabe Cohen blasted a pinch-hit two-run home run over the left-field fence, scoring Babineau from second base. Cohen's second round-tripper of the season gave the Bruins a 6-0 advantage.
