LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 1 UCLA women's water polo team registered a 13-6 win over No. 12 Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon at LMU's Burns Recreation Center. Junior Tanya Gandy led the undefeated Bruins (5-0) with three goals in the non-conference victory.
UCLA took advantage of its 6-on-5 opportunities, converting each of five advantage situations. The Bruins led 6-1 after one quarter and raced to an 8-3 halftime lead against the Lions (0-1). UCLA outscored Loyola Marymount by a 5-3 margin in the second half.
The Bruins received multiple-goal performances from five players - seniors Courtney Mathewson and Jillina Kraus, junior Katie Rulon and freshman Kelly Easterday. Senior Gabrielle Domanic and freshman Priscilla Orozco each registered one goal for the visitors.
Loyola Marymount's Nicole Hughes led the host Lions with three goals.
Junior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen made five stops in the cage for UCLA. Loyola Marymount's Eliana Arellano registered eight saves.
UCLA returns to action in its home-opening contest against Hartwick on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Game time is 3 p.m. at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
