No. 2 UCLA Men's Water Polo Downs Redlands, 14-4, at UCI Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Freshman Griffin White scored a season-high five goals to pace the No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team past Redlands, 14-4, in a first-round contest at the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday morning. In all, the Bruins (11-2) received goals from nine players.

UCLA led the entire contest against Redlands (8-11), opening a 2-0 lead through the first quarter. The Bruins outscored Redlands by a 4-1 margin in the second period to assume a 6-1 halftime advantage.

Both teams traded one pair of goals in the third quarter, before UCLA sealed the victory by outscoring Redlands, 6-1, in the final quarter.

Senior goalkeeper Chay Lapin registered six saves for the Bruins. Freshman Matt Rapacz logged three saves, and sophomore Andrew Mesesan made one stop in relief for UCLA.

Redlands received one goal from each of four players.

UCLA returns to action Saturday against No. 8 Long Beach State at Corona del Mar High School. Game time of the quarterfinal match is slated for 3:10 p.m.
