UCLA scored three second-half goals en route to a 4-1 victory at Arizona State on Monday evening. The win keeps the Bruins undefeated on the year with a 9-0-2 record, while the Sun Devils fall to 5-6-1. Abby Dahlkemper, Zakiya Bywaters, Ally Courtnall and Taylor Smith provided the scoring for UCLA, while goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland earned the victory, making four saves.
Dahlkemper got the scoring started in the ninth minute for the Bruins with a header into the top right corner. Caprice Dydasco sent a cross into the box that went through Arizona State goalkeeper Chandler Morris' hands right to Dahlkemper, who headed the ball in for her third goal of the season.
The Bruins got two goals on the run of play later in the half. First, Bywaters scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year at 27:00 after Sarah Killion sent her a pass inside the 18. Then, at 38:57, Jenna Richmond sent a through ball behind the defender to a streaking Courtnall, who beat Morris with a shot to the lower right corner. The goal was Courtnall's third of the year.
Smith put UCLA ahead 4-0 at 69:29 when she ran down a long ball, drawing the goalkeeper out and beating two defenders before slotting the ball into the empty net.
Arizona State got one back at 71:25 after Alyssa Freeman capitalized on a UCLA turnover, hooking a shot over Rowland in the upper left corner, but it was too little, too late for the Sun Devils.
Rowland finished with four saves on 13 ASU shots. Morris had three saves on 16 UCLA shots.
The Bruins will play two more games this week, traveling to Oregon to face the Ducks on Friday and the Oregon State Beavers on Sunday.
