UCLA vs. Washington - Postgame Quotes

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel
"We are thrilled with the victory. We are going to enjoy it for a day and then look and see how we made all those mistakes and survived. There were some great things today, our throwing game getting the ball down the field and our receivers getting open. But we had far too many turnovers. We finally got one back at the end, a very key play in the game. We're fortunate to be sitting here with the win. I complimented my team for their resolve, coming back to work despite going through so much adversity over the last five weeks. But we kept coming back and believed. It's a long journey but I believe we are on the right course."

On Richard Brehaut's play: "He went in when Kevin (Prince) got hurt and there were a couple mistakes, the illegal formation because he didn't line up correctly and that's what you go over in practice. And then the fumble on third down. I have to send the message to Richard that this is hard, competing at this level. I'm not down on him and I'm still trying to get him more playing time because I believe in him.

On the helmet-to-helmet hit on Kevin Prince: "It was a tough play. The NCAA is trying to crack down on helmet-to-helmet contact, but when you are going full speed, it's a tough deal. We've had it happen to us, but those are bang-bang calls and you can't get mad at anybody. I don't think there is any need for discipline. Kevin made a great decision to run on that play, but we'll have to work on that slide."

On Prince's status: "He was coherent and out there, standing and watching his teammates. With head and concussion syndromes, they need to be careful. We've seen all the specials and it is best that we as coaches don't make the decision and that it's in the hands of the medical people. There is a protocol of what happens next and we'll see how it goes."

On Johnathan Franklin's fumbles: "We stress ball handling all the time. I still have high hopes for Johnathan. He's got to get stronger so they can't just pull it from his body. He's just got to hang on to it like it's gold because on Saturdays it is."

On the big interception near the end of the game by Rahim Moore: "Games like this come down to big time plays by big-time players. Give credit to Sheldon Price on that play. He's been targeted because he's a newcomer. People are trying to pick on him and he hasn't made a bunch of plays. But as he gets more confident he has the opportunity to be one of the better corners in the league. To get the ball tipped up and have Rahim make the play shows significant growth."

On Milton Knox getting into the game: "I'm thrilled for him. We've been looking for ways to get him in the game and for him to have a chance and have him make an impact was terrific. All these names we keep talking about are freshmen and sophomores. We keep growing and growing fast and hopefully we can stay on track."

On Kevin Craft's play: "When his number got called, I told him that this was his opportunity. I know there were a couple of plays that he wishes he had back. Considering how little practice he had this week, I'm very proud of him."

Washington Head Coach Steve Sarkisian
"Somewhere in here there has got to be a silver lining of all these games and experiences that we've been in. We are going to grow from them. We are going to find it. I feel for our guys because when you get so close so many times and you just can't finish it it's disappointing. Honestly, I feel for our seniors. To get in a ball game like this and to come out on the losing end is disappointing for everybody."

"We're a young team, and we're learning. (These games) are hard to swallow now but in the future, these games are going to help us and mold us into the team we will become."

On running back Chris Polk: "Chris had a great effort. I'm proud of him. He's a redshirt freshman and has a lot of football ahead of him. He played well and ran hard."
