Following a tough five-game loss on the road to Long Beach State, fifth-ranked UCLA will attempt to rebound against UC San Diego on Fri., Mar. 2 at Pauley Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Friday's match will be broadcast live on the internet at www.uclabruins.com with Darren Preston calling the action.
On Wednesday, the Bruins were upset 3-2 by No. 14 Long Beach State at the Pyramid. The loss was the Bruins' fifth straight on The Beach's home floor, a streak that dates back to 2002. The setback also snapped UCLA's three-match winning streak.
UCLA seniors Steve Klosterman and Paul George combined for 46 kills with Klosterman pounding a match-high 27 (.431) for 29.5 points. George added 19 kills (.394) with five digs and three block assists. Junior libero Tony Ker added 11 digs and his brother, frehman setter Kevin Ker, recorded 52 set assists.
With seven conference losses, the Bruins dropped behind Cal State Northridge into sixth place in the MPSF race. The Matadors upended No.4 UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday to raise their league record to 9-6.
UC San Diego, ranked 19th by MiddleHitter.com last week, boasts an overall record of 5-11, 2-9 in MPSF play. On Wednesday, UCSD lost 3-0 on the road to No.2 UC Irvine. In league play, the Tritons have defeated USC (3-1, Jan. 19) and Long Beach State (3-2, Feb. 24). The Bruins lead the series, 42-0.
UCLA will continue its home stand with a non-conference date against No. 10 Loyola-Chicago on Wed., Mar. 7 before traveling to UC Irvine on Mar. 9.
The first 250 fans attending the UC San Diego match will receive the 2007 UCLA Men's Volleyball Team Photo Card. The UCSD match also will be Public Safety Night -- all public safety and law enforcement personnel can present their badge or relevant ID at the Main Gate on game night and receive four complimentary admissions.
