Tatum Souza finished second in the heptathlon at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational as the freshman scored a lifetime-best of 4927 points. Souza came into the final day of the heptathlon in third-place and moved up to second on Friday.

She had a rough start to her day in the long jump as she posted a mark of 15-11.25 to finish seventh in the event (522 pts.). Souza then went on to the javelin where she posted a big lifetime-best of 121-4 to win and pick up 610 pts. In the final event of the competition, the 800m, Souza finished second overall in a time of 2:25.78 (747 pts.) to give her a total score of 4927 points.

Teammate Kimmie Conner finished fourth overall with a score of 4545 points. She was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 15-7.75 (498 pts.). In the javelin, Conner was second overall with a lifetime-best throw of 109-4 (540 pts.) and then she wrapped up the day with the third-fastest time in the 800m (2:26.18/742 pts.).

In other events on Friday, freshman Haley Stauber finished fourth in the open section of the pole vault with a clearance of 10-11.75. Sophomore Victoria Breidenthal was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 103-2. In the steeplechase, three freshmen competed as Rachel Butler was second (11:14.33, lifetime-best), Elle Sanders was third (11:29.34, lifetime-best) and Kristina Rivera was fifth (12:34.15, lifetime-best).

In the open 400m, sophomore Briana Barlow was eighth with a time of 58.78. Senior Joy Eaton won the open 200m in a time of 24.61, while junior Nijah Nelms was second, running 24.95. Freshman Allie Lopez was eighth in the open 1500m (4:39.37), while senior Kelcie Wiemann was 20th (4:49.24). Lauren Hall, an All-American swimmer for UCLA who joined the Bruin track and field team last week, finished 21st in a time of 4:50.18. In the open 800m, freshman Tiffany LaMar was fourth in a time of 2:15.61.

Senior Shannon Murakami was the top Bruin finisher in the open 5000m as she was sixth with a time of 16:51.90. Senior Whitney Blue was ninth (17:37.16), sophomore Katja Goldring was 11th (17:51.32) and freshman Meghan Marvin was 12th (18:25.76).

Competition concludes on Saturday with the invite section of the meet. Women's hammer throw kicks the day off at 10:00 am, while the running events begin at 12:15 pm with the 4x100m relay.
