Long Beach, Calif. - The No. 7 UCLA women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season on Sunday, as the Bruins registered a 4-0 victory over Long Beach State at George Allen Field. With the win, UCLA moves to 1-1-1 on the season. The 49ers fall to 1-1 overall.
The Bruins got on the board in the 22nd minute of action, as sophomore Sydney Leroux headed in a cross from Summer Williams to give UCLA an early 1-0 advantage. Leroux would strike again just 16 seconds into the second half, as she received a pass from senior Kristina Larsen and dribbled around Long Beach goalkeeper Emily Kingsborough before scoring on an empty net from close range.
It marks Leroux's second multiple-goal match in three contests this year, as she also scored twice in the season opener against North Carolina. She has accounted for four of the Bruins' seven goals this season.
Next up for the Bruins is a trip to Champaign, Ill. for the Illini Challenge Cup this Friday and Sunday. UCLA faces Illinois on Friday at 7:00 p.m. (CST), and Florida on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (CST).
