Senior Kevin Chappell (Fresno, CA/Buchanan HS) of the UCLA men's golf team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (January 28-February 3).
Chappell posted a three-round total of 198 (-15) to win the PING Arizona Intercollegiate by seven shots. His 54-hole score (67-67-64) eclipsed the 23 year-old school record of 199 held by Duffy Waldorf, the 1985 Player of the Year. In addition, Chappell's final round 64 (-7) tied for the second best single round score in school history. He made seven birdies, six on the outward nine, and no bogeys. Finally, his front nine score of 29 (-6) tied another school record. Chappell's victory was the fourth of his career, which ties him for fourth place on UCLA's career victories list. He currently has a scoring average of 69.4 in nine rounds this season. Six of his nine rounds are under par and five are below 70. He has finished in the Top 20 in his last 10 starts and in 15 of his last 16. Each of his rounds this year has counted in team scoring.
This is Chappell's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
