LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's soccer team was selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships on Monday and will host first and second round action at Drake Stadium beginning this Thursday.
UCLA (12-7-1) opens up the tournament against BYU (16-3-2) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The other first-round match that day features fourth-seeded Central Florida (14-4-3) taking on WAC Champion Fresno State (9-8-5) at 8:00 p.m. Thursday's winners will advance to the second round on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
It marks the 13th year in a row that UCLA has been chosen to host NCAA early-round action. It is also the first time since 1999 that the Bruins are not seeded in the tournament.
UCLA dropped a 1-0 decision BYU in the only NCAA Tournament meeting between the two teams in 1998. The Bruins are 1-0 against Fresno State in postseason play, beating the Bulldogs, 5-0 in the first round in 2008. UCLA has never faced Central Florida in women's soccer.
Tickets for this weekend's matches are $9.00 for adults and $7.00 for youth/students.
