The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in fourth place following the opening round of the 24th Pac-10 Women's Golf Championship, hosted by the University of Oregon at the Eugene Country Club.
The Bruins posted a first-round score of 289 (+1) and trailed round one leader Arizona State (283, -5) by six shots. USC was second at 284 (-4), followed by Cal in third at 287 (-1). Host Oregon was fifth at 292 (+4), followed by sixth-place Arizona at 293 (+5), seventh place Washington at 296 (+8) and eighth place Stanford at 301 (+13). Washington State and Oregon State were tied for ninth at 317 (+29).
The Pac-10 Women's Golf Championship is a 54-hole event.
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Stephanie Kono was tied for fourth place at two-under par 70. She trailed Cal's Joanna Lee, the first round leader, by three shots. Freshman Tiffany Lua, senior Sydnee Michaels and junior Glory Yang were tied for 15th place at one-over par 73. Sophomore Brianna Do was tied for 31st after posting a 76 (+4).
